- Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM) today issued the following statement in response to a patent-infringement lawsuit filed against it by patent-holding company NTP Inc. The NTP lawsuit claims that certain Palm products infringe seven NTP patents. All seven of the patents asserted are being re-examined by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) and have been rejected by the re-examiners as invalid.
- It is clear that the court has agreed with the Commission on a number of the Commission's points, and I do want to simply start by expressing our gratitude to this court for the lengthy consideration that it gave to these issues. These are obviously complicated and important topics, and we appreciate all of the objective and thorough work that went into the decision that was issued today.
- A $1.1 billion antitrust settlement with Microsoft is now available for distribution, according to attorneys at Townsend Townsend & Crew, the San Francisco firm that represented California consumers and businesses. In August 2006, cash vouchers will be sent to Californians who made claims for their share of the settlement proceeds.
- Microsoft applauds the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Attorney Kevin V. Ryan for the conviction of three individuals involved in a scheme to defraud Microsoft of millions of dollars by obtaining discounted software under false pretenses. The conviction of these individuals is a significant victory for the software industry, its partners and customers, and all who value fair and ethical business practices.
