Remove Hidden Metadata from Word Documents
TechnoEsq, 07/02/08
Unfortunately, metadata has curtailed one of the courtesies attorneys in litigation formerly exhibited through providing discovery requests in an electronic format so that opposing counsel didn’t have to have his assistant re-type your requests when answering discovery.

Is E-Mail Evidence Less Persuasive?
EDD Update, 06/20/08
I suppose it says something about your status in life if you are pleased or appalled to see Wall Street titans with eight-figure incomes taken away in handcuffs and booked. It's a bit like the lawyers in Qualcomm v Broadcom: we can identify with them until the lying starts, and then we no longer see ourselves in their moccasins.

Robert D. Brownstone and William A. Fenwick of Fenwick & West LLP

Filing paper documents at courthouses and administrative agencies is the law practice equivalent of an endangered species, giving way to a new breed of activity - electronic filing. Efiling is the uploading to a website of information in electronic form. The efiling process has begun to have a more pervasive effect on the legal system than did the adoption of codes of civil procedure or administrative procedure acts.

  • Effective Case Management: How to Control Litigation Outcomes and Costs (November 01, 2002)

Theodore M. Becker of Theodore M. Becker

Litigation is traumatic, chaotic and confusing for most clients, even for clients who are no strangers to litigation. One of the primary reasons clients react to litigation in this way is the failure of attorneys to properly manage the case and involve the client in the litigation process. Another reason is the high cost of litigation.
  • Case Management For Mass Litigation (August 01, 2002)

    Prevail of Prevail

Case Management software has come a long way in the last 15 years. Most of the higher-end, litigation-oriented case management software packages can generate a document in a matter of seconds, then automatically save it, diary it, make a time entry, and even make a cost entry for postage. That's all well and good if you're dealing with a single case and a single document. But if your practice happens to include mass litigation, you'll want to consider a multi-dimensional software system.
  • Genuine Licensed Software: Understand the Advantages (July 01, 2002)

    Microsoft of Microsoft

As a legal professional, you're expected to live by the letter of the law. It's easy to do when you understand the rules inside and out. It gets more complicated when it involves issues that may not be top-of-mind -- such as software licensing.
