Electronic Discovery Law, 07/03/08
We are pleased to announce that our searchable case database now contains over 1,000 e-discovery cases from state and federal jurisdictions, with new cases being added every week. Now more than ever, our database is an excellent source of information on developing e-discovery case law around the country.

Remove Hidden Metadata from Word Documents
TechnoEsq, 07/02/08
Unfortunately, metadata has curtailed one of the courtesies attorneys in litigation formerly exhibited through providing discovery requests in an electronic format so that opposing counsel didn’t have to have his assistant re-type your requests when answering discovery.

Is E-Mail Evidence Less Persuasive?
EDD Update, 06/20/08
I suppose it says something about your status in life if you are pleased or appalled to see Wall Street titans with eight-figure incomes taken away in handcuffs and booked. It's a bit like the lawyers in Qualcomm v Broadcom: we can identify with them until the lying starts, and then we no longer see ourselves in their moccasins.

Lawdex Releases Online Court Document Retrieval

Lawdex

San Francisco, CA [October 5th, 2007] Lawdex announced today the live release of its new legal research tool, providing any US attorney the ability to reach across the web to pull court records from all state and municipal courts on demand.

Since only a portion of state-court records are available online, the vast majority of court records can only be retrieved from courts in paper format. Lawdex, by working in tandem with its network affiliates, has automated the retrieval process for attorneys with online access.

Court records are retrieved from the target court in either electronic or paper format, scanned as necessary, converted to PDF format, and made accessible to attorneys online. On request, attorneys may have the option to receive their selected court records in a searchable PDF format.

Lawdex is promoting document retrieval to attorneys with standard 2-3 day service. A base rate of $79.50 applies with an additional $1/page to cover applicable processing & court fees. Additional processing fees for unique requests occasionally apply.

Lawdex timed the launch of their new release to coincide with the annual conference of the California Association of Photocopiers and Process Servers (CAPPS) meeting this weekend in Lake Tahoe, California where Lawdex will demonstrate the live system. The online system delivers document requests to the associated members of CAPPS and other professional groups.

Lawdex is promoting the court document retrieval service under its SDX product line. SDX (Secure Document Exchange) offers a complement of online legal services available at www.lawdex.com.

New SDX tools also deliver nationwide service of process and online court filing to all counties in the state of California through attorney service firms affiliated with the CAPPS network.

Commenting on the underlying technology, Chief Technology Officer and co-founder Brent Pearson made note of the system's design, "This is a secure document exchange designed for people relying on the integrity of their legal documents. The technology means little without its ability to connect people in a way that's trusted."
