Electronic Discovery Law, 07/03/08

Now more than ever, our database is an excellent source of information on developing e-discovery case law around the country.

Remove Hidden Metadata from Word Documents
TechnoEsq, 07/02/08
Unfortunately, metadata has curtailed one of the courtesies attorneys in litigation formerly exhibited through providing discovery requests in an electronic format so that opposing counsel didn’t have to have his assistant re-type your requests when answering discovery.

Is E-Mail Evidence Less Persuasive?
EDD Update, 06/20/08
I suppose it says something about your status in life if you are pleased or appalled to see Wall Street titans with eight-figure incomes taken away in handcuffs and booked. It's a bit like the lawyers in Qualcomm v Broadcom: we can identify with them until the lying starts, and then we no longer see ourselves in their moccasins.

Anacomp and Recommind Join Forces to Accelerate Litigation Review Process

Recommind

SAN DIEGO AND SAN FRANCISCO, CA, DECEMBER 4, 2007 - Anacomp® Inc., a leading business process solutions company, and Recommind® Inc., a leading provider of enterprise search and automatic categorization systems for law firms, corporate legal departments and enterprises, today jointly announced an alliance that will combine Recommind's Axcelerate™ eDiscovery technology with Anacomp's CaseLogistix® litigation support solution. With the integration, CaseLogistix customers can benefit from more accurate and insightful litigation review processes and significantly reduced processing times and costs.

CaseLogistix is the most powerful and versatile litigation review and integration platform available today, providing a complete solution for electronic document organization, annotation, discovery management and production. By incorporating Axcelerate eDiscovery's unique, language-agnostic technologies - including First Pass Review™ and One Click Coding™ functionality - CaseLogistix users can gain deep insight into a document collection before the review process even starts. By automatically organizing and coding documents for privilege, priority, responsiveness and relationship to issues or subject codes, users save significant amounts of review time and resources. In addition, Axcelerate eDiscovery offers law firms and enterprises more accurate and extensive document culling and filtering of virtually all document types, including both structured and unstructured data. The solution automatically filters duplicates and near-duplicates between and across custodians and parties, and, by applying 17 distinct filter types, offers contextual email thread analysis, dramatically reducing the number of documents to be reviewed.

"With the new Federal rules governing eDiscovery, litigation processing costs have skyrocketed for law firms and corporate legal departments", said John Turner, Chief Technology Officer of Anacomp. "By offering CaseLogistix as a desktop version or via an on-demand, hosted environment, we provide the only litigation support solution that offers users a choice as to how they can manage their document reviews. Now, with this integration with Axcelerate eDiscovery, we are taking the next step towards utilizing industry best-of-breed technology to enable our customers to simplify the increasingly complex practice of eDiscovery, resulting in streamlined operations and decreased review times and costs."

"We're pleased Anacomp has chosen to integrate Axcelerate eDiscovery with CaseLogistix, as the two products naturally complement each other," said Craig Carpenter, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Recommind. "By utilizing our patented MindServer® conceptual search and automatic categorization technology for the review process, Axcelerate eDiscovery offers an unparalleled advantage to litigation support teams. This alliance between our two companies extends our collective ability to serve the growing market demand for greatly increased productivity and efficiency by managing electronic evidence throughout the litigation lifecycle."

CaseLogistix allows legal teams to quickly collect, review, and produce any amount of digital evidence using an interface similar to that of Microsoft® Outlook®. Combined with Anacomp's docHarbor® document management platform, business process management services, and secure high-speed scanning and conversion services, CaseLogistix provides law firms and corporate legal departments with one-stop access to one of the broadest litigation management solutions in the legal industry.

Axcelerate eDiscovery includes the unique First Pass Review and patent-pending One Click Coding functionality. First Pass Review automatically organizes multi-terabyte document sets by myriad parameters including responsiveness, issue, privilege and concept group, making review organization and document batching simpler, more accurate and quicker. One Click Coding makes a computer-generated judgment - with explicit confidence score - about each document's relevance, responsiveness, and privileged nature, expediting the actual review process while improving accuracy and lowering the risk of missing key documents.
