Remove Hidden Metadata from Word Documents
TechnoEsq, 07/02/08
Unfortunately, metadata has curtailed one of the courtesies attorneys in litigation formerly exhibited through providing discovery requests in an electronic format so that opposing counsel didn’t have to have his assistant re-type your requests when answering discovery.

Is E-Mail Evidence Less Persuasive?
EDD Update, 06/20/08
I suppose it says something about your status in life if you are pleased or appalled to see Wall Street titans with eight-figure incomes taken away in handcuffs and booked. It's a bit like the lawyers in Qualcomm v Broadcom: we can identify with them until the lying starts, and then we no longer see ourselves in their moccasins.

LiveNote Expands Patent Portfolio

LiveNote

ORLANDO, Aug. 21, 2007 – LiveNote, a Thomson business, today announced that two additional patents within the Engate patent portfolio have been allowed by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The Engate portfolio relates to realtime management of testimonial text and evidence, and underscores the company's leadership in realtime and litigation management technologies for the legal industry.

U.S. Patent 7,249,026 and allowed application 09/837,752 (jointly comprising 49 new claims) provide an additional layer of IP protection for current and future products from LiveNote. Following the acquisition of the RealLegal company and its intellectual property assets in 2004, and the acquisition of the Engate patent portfolio in 2006, the forthcoming approval of new patents illustrates the company's commitment to innovative technologies in developing more powerful evidence management tools and services for legal professionals.

"At LiveNote, we leverage our innovation and intellectual property to differentiate our offerings and deliver products that bring the greatest value to our clients," stated Will Robberts, General Manager for LiveNote. "This news from the USPTO is validation of the hard work of our team and the contribution our products make to the markets we serve. We are very pleased to share this latest development with our clients."

Robberts said LiveNote will continue to invest in technological innovation and enhance its products to the benefit of all its users. He added that LiveNote's patents complement Thomson's existing IP portfolio and support Thomson West's overall vision to provide market-leading electronic workflow solutions. "Our patent portfolio gives us the unique ability to create tools that can integrate evidentiary materials with software tools to support the litigation process," he said. "We're committed to leveraging our technology assets to create even more powerful tools for the legal profession."
