Over 1,000 Cases Now Included in K&L Gates' E-Discovery Case Database
Electronic Discovery Law, 07/03/08
We are pleased to announce that our searchable case database now contains over 1,000 e-discovery cases from state and federal jurisdictions, with new cases being added every week. Now more than ever, our database is an excellent source of information on developing e-discovery case law around the country.

Remove Hidden Metadata from Word Documents
TechnoEsq, 07/02/08
Unfortunately, metadata has curtailed one of the courtesies attorneys in litigation formerly exhibited through providing discovery requests in an electronic format so that opposing counsel didn’t have to have his assistant re-type your requests when answering discovery.

Is E-Mail Evidence Less Persuasive?
EDD Update, 06/20/08
I suppose it says something about your status in life if you are pleased or appalled to see Wall Street titans with eight-figure incomes taken away in handcuffs and booked. It's a bit like the lawyers in Qualcomm v Broadcom: we can identify with them until the lying starts, and then we no longer see ourselves in their moccasins.

Attorneys' Court Form Problems Solved

Abacus Data Systems

San Diego, CA - September 27, 2007 - With local, state and Federal courts across the United States increasingly relying on electronic versions of court forms for filings, attorneys and paralegals have found re-entering data onto these forms has cost their firms hundreds of labor hours, with a high risk of mistakes from mistyping or using wrong information. Abacus Data Systems has solved these problems with the "auto-fill court forms" feature built in to AbacusLaw 2008.

Any PDF form can be mapped to be auto-filled from AbacusLaw. Client and case data that is already entered and used by the law firm can be imported with mere mouse clicks to fill related fields on PDF or Microsoft Word court forms. Firms have the confidence of knowing the data is current and entered automatically, without having to spend time typing or accidentally mistyping those items.

When forms are completed using AbacusLaw, attorneys and their staffs can submit them via email, print and save the forms. Completed forms can be linked to client and case records for subsequent retrieval and review.

Abacus is simultaneously releasing an option that includes all California Judicial Council Forms, pre-linked to a law firm's AbacusLaw database.

Abacus President Judd Kessler explained his company's commitment to law firms: "Auto-fill for court forms is yet another way Abacus products let legal professionals enter data once and use it repeatedly. Some other examples include using contact information for billing and marketing purposes."
