Oracle Simplifies User Management in Oracle Database 10g(R)

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.   21-MAY-2007 05:15 AM    To provide customers greater flexibility and choice, Oracle today announced it has integrated Enterprise User Security (EUS), a feature of Oracle Database(r) 10g, with Oracle Virtual Directory, enabling organizations to centrally manage database user identities through their existing corporate directories such as Oracle Internet Directory, Microsoft Active Directory and Sun Java System Directory Server.

Centralized database user management helps address compliance and insider threat challenges, especially for organizations with large-scale databases and user populations. Utilizing EUS, organizations can now use virtualization capabilities to manage database user identities and their highly privileged roles across diverse identity stores without having to migrate or synchronize the data. Building upon Oracle Fusion Middleware's hot-pluggable capabilities, Oracle Virtual Directory enables customers to create a single LDAP view of identity data from a broad range of identity sources. When paired with Oracle Virtual Directory, Oracle Database 10g customers can now use EUS to virtually provision database user accounts, assign database roles, centrally manage user authentication and authorization, and enable self-service features such as password resets in existing corporate directories.

"Given heightened security demands, organizations must implement comprehensive identity and access strategies that span database users and the access rights they typically enjoy," said Sally Hudson, research director, Security Products and Services, IDC. "The integration of Oracle Virtual Directory with Enterprise User Security is a timely and important offering. The increased flexibility and greater choice helps solve a critical security need for many Oracle Database customers today."

A key component of Oracle Identity Management and Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle Virtual Directory allows customers to rapidly deploy directory enabled applications by providing a real-time, virtual view of identity data from any data store including directories, databases and Web services without synchronization. For organizations with multiple directories, Oracle Virtual Directory's real-time integration presents a single consolidated view of all enterprise-wide identity information to the database or application. Oracle Virtual Directory was recently named the Info Security Products Guide winner of the 2007 Global Excellence in Directory Services Award. Customers from around the world voted for this product signaling their enthusiasm and confidence in its ability to help secure their most critical digital assets. This recognition further validates Oracle's leadership in providing innovative and industry leading solutions for identity management and database security.

"As a result of heightened compliance requirements and the increased need to efficiently manage the access rights of highly privileged database users, our customers are recognizing centralized database user management as a critical component of their overall security and compliance strategy," said Amit Jasuja, vice president of Development for Security and Identity Management, Oracle. "The enhanced offering will enable Oracle customers to manage database user identities and roles in existing corporate directories, helping them to more easily control privileged user access to sensitive information and streamline compliance requirements."

Oracle Virtual Directory is available as part of Oracle's Directory Services offering. The offering also includes Oracle Internet Directory, a highly scalable LDAP directory that leverages the high availability and security features of the Oracle Database.
